How it works
The 50/30/20 method
One simple, proven split is enough to get control. Here is the exact, transparent math — and any plans you have saved.
← Back to Budget BuddyThe buckets
- Needs (50%)
- rent, food, utilities, minimum debt payments
- Wants (30%)
- dining out, fun, subscriptions
- Savings & debt (20%)
- emergency fund, investing, extra payments
Take your monthly take-home pay, multiply by 50%, 30%, and 20%, and those are your three targets. Compare what you actually spend to each target. Within 5% counts as on track. It is a starting frame, not a straitjacket — adjust it to your life. This is plain math, not financial advice.
